Silent Witness returns to BBC One tonight, January 6, and Nikki Alexander star from viewers as Nikki and Jack hit the next milestone in their relationship. With expectations continuing to grow over time, fans were desperate to see the pair fully commit to one another.
Emilia told Radio Times: “The relationship between Jack and Nikki has been running over such a long period of time, and the expectation has been so great about what would or wouldn’t happen, that we wanted that to be rewarded in the way that the proposal took place. There was a surprise element to it, but it reflected into what they do as well. The proposal had all of that.
“David played it so beautifully. And so, it really felt like there was the thrill of that surprise and that Jack had really thought about it and cared about it. There’s a real responsibility to get it right.”
With the premiere dropping tonight, fans will also be treated to a second episode tomorrow, January 7, with the remaining eight episodes following the same pattern. Alongside Emilia, David Caves is also returning as Jack.

Harriet Maven – Maggie Steed
Jack is apprehensive about the arrival of new boss Professor Harriet Maven.
She proves to be difficult and proceeds to quickly rub Jack up the wrong way.
She is played by Maggie Steed, a 78-year-old English actress and comedian who was one of the first women to become involved in the alternative comedy scene in the late 70s.
The actress and political activist is known for her roles in , Rivals, Shine on Harvey Moon and Pie in the Sky.
Kit Brooks – Francesca Mills
Kit Brooks is the new crime analyst and she is played by Francesca Mills.
Francesca is a British actress best known for playing Cherry Dorrington in Harlots and Meldof in The Witcher: Blood Origin.
She was born with Achondroplasia, a common form of dwarfism.
DI John Flynn – Sean Pertwee
One of the guest stars of the new series is Sean Pertwee, a 60-year-old actor, narrator and producer.
He is known for his roles in Gotham, Tom Jones and Dog Soldiers.
He comes from a famous family of actors and screenwriters, and is married to make-up artist Jacqui Hamilton-Smith.
The pair had twins in 2001, however they tragically lost one of the babies four days after the birth as they were premature.
Blessing – Lisa Davina Phillip
Lisa Davina Phillip is another guest star in the new series and she is a British actress and singer who started her career in radio.
As for her TV credits, she has previously starred in Doctors, Call the Midwife and Hard Cell.

Ollie – Iman Marson
Also joining the guest cast for the first two episodes is Iman Marson, who viewers may recognise as Lucas Walker in ‘s Wednesday.
The youngster has also starred in Black Cake, Breaking the Band and Split Sole.
Gary Baxter – Jason Callender
Jason Callender briefly joins the cast and he is a 35-year-old actor who has starred in Shadow and Bone and Malory Towers.
His other credits include Holby City, 4 O’Clock Club and Bottersnikes and Gumbles.
Benjamin Dawson – David Hargreaves
David Hargreaves stars in the new season and he is an 84-year-old English stage and screen actor.
During the 70s and 80s he also worked as a children’s TV presenter.
His TV credits include Dalgliesh, A Very British Scandal, Fleabag and Last Christmas.
PC Greenwood – Amy Booth-Steel
Amy Booth-Steel rounds off the guest cast and she is a Birmingham-born actress who has starred in and Blue Jean.
Viewers may also recognise her from Nolly and Doctor Who.
