Viewers are in for a ride when “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: The Final Chapter” returns for its third and final season in January.
The Investigation Discovery series follows Natalia Grace, a Ukrainian orphan with a rare dwarfism condition, as she “is forced to navigate a number of seemingly insurmountable challenges,” per a press release.
The first two seasons have followed Grace’s legal battle with her former adoptive parents, Kristine and Michael Barnett, and her relationship with her next adoptive family, Cynthia and Antwon Mans. The final episodes show how Grace ended up living with the DePaul family in New York.
Who is Natalia Grace?
Grace was adopted by Michael and Kristine Barnett in 2010.
Previously in the docuseries, Michael Barnettexplained that Grace’s Ukrainian birth certificate listed her birth date as Sept. 4, 2003, making her about6 years old at the time of adoption.
Michael Barnett said his familybegan to question whether Grace was actually an adult masquerading as a child, which Grace has denied.

Grace maintained she was a minor when she was adopted. In “Natalia Speaks,” a DNA test suggested that Grace’s age was “closer to 22,” making her about 7 years old when she was adopted.
The Barnetts changed birth certificate to say Grace was born in 1989. Then, they rented an apartment in Lafayette and moved to Canada without her in 2013, according to court documents.
Michael and Kristine Barnett divorced in 2014, per NBC News, and were each charged with felony neglect of a dependent in 2019. Michael Barnett was found not guilty in 2022 following a trial, the AP reported. Kristine Barnett’s charges were dismissed in 2023.
Grace was adopted by Bishop Antwon and Cynthia Mans, her guardians of approximately 10 years, in 2023. After the adoption soured, which was hinted at in Season 2 and explored in depth during Season 3, Grace went to live with Nicole and Vincent DePaul’s family in New York.
Per a press release, the third season will offer “exclusive and unparalleled access to Natalia and the DePaul family” and will feature “previously unheard accounts from individuals close to the Mans family who outline an alleged pattern of negligence and abuse.”
