Brits urged to stockpile 5 things today before snow and ice hit UK

With set in place for areas across the UK, Brits are urged to stock up on certain items to brace themselves for the cold weather conditions that are expected to hit the country in the upcoming days.

Yellow weather warnings of have been issued from today until tomorrow for Scotland, the North West, West Midlands, South West and Wales.

Manchester, and Cardiff are just some of the areas impacted. A yellow weather warning has also been issued for the South of England, with areas including Portsmouth and Brighton to be hit with snow from 9 am on Wednesday, January 8.

There are risks some might be cut off by snow and can’t access services. This could mean that some might be without food or heat for several hours or days.

The has advised in order to stay safe there are certain items which are “essentials”.

  • Matches (or lighters)
  • Torches
  • Batteries
  • A mobile phone power bank

It is important that Brits are constantly checking for updates when weather warnings are issued as they can “change quickly”.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) also extended its amber which is now in effect from today (January 6) until 12pm Sunday 12 January, warning that the weather is expected to have significant impacts across health and social care services.”

The agency warns that there will be an increase in demand for health services, a struggle to keep indoor temperatures at the recommended 18C and a rise in death particulary among those aged 65 and over with health conditions.
