While Christmas decorations can make homes look pleasantly festive, they can leave behind a sticky mess if you don’t remove them properly.

Now, fans of sensation have shared how to remove sticky residue from windows and other surfaces using a simple household item.

It comes after Facebook user Sue Roberts asked the social media group, ‘ Cleaning Tips’: “Hi folks, [I] had sellotape on my window. When taken off, it’s left sticky residue on bits of the window. What’s the best thing to remove it without scratching the glass? Many thanks.”

The post was inundated with more than 260 comments from fellow cleaning enthusiasts, with the most suggested solution being WD40.

Kennedy LA said: “WD40. Spray a little onto sellotape residue, leave for 10 minutes, it should rub off using a soft cloth. For stubborn areas, repeat the process.”
