The NASA engineer shared how to defrost your car (Stock Image)
Coming out to your car in the morning only to realise that the windscreen is icy can be seriously frustrating.
It means that you need to completely clear it before setting off ; otherwise, you can land yourself with a hefty fine – but if you’re running late anyway, this can feel stressful. @eden_tyres_and_servicing, automotive experts in the West Midlands shared a video, saying: “Here is the best way to defrost your windscreen according to a former NASA engineer” – and unsurprisingly, it isn’t by using hot water on it, as that might shatter it.
Step one is to get in your car and “turn on the car immediately at full blast”. Step two is to “turn on the car’s air conditioning, which will help soak up the remainder of any moisture inside”.
:
Step three is to “turn off the car air circulation button,” as when it’s turned on, the “humidity is trapped inside”. Step four is a “slightly unexpected” one, as it’s to “open all of the car windows only ever so slightly.”
“This will help exchange humidity in the car for the dry air that’s outside, and voila, a nice defrosted windscreen,” she finished the video by saying.
Someone in the comments recommended: “Also put your sun visors down – traps more of the hot air against the screen”. Another said that “this doesn’t work” for their car, so it may not work for everyone.
…
Others recommended other things, with one saying: “Slight warm water in a bottle and boom 5 secs later. Being doing it for 27 years and no smashed window,” but this is not recommended.
Someone else shared: “A sealed plastic bag with water slightly above cold. Not even tepid. Rub all over windows. Works every time.”
“My car doesn’t have these fancy buttons. I have to turn my car on and wait for the heating to heat up, which takes about 20-25 mins,” a TikToker fumed.
Another suggested: “Ice scraper, proper Job, £1.99, takes 5 mins.” “Great tips,” somebody said, sharing that they were going to try it the next time it was frosty in the UK.
