ITV Playing Nice fans ‘work out’ who swapped babies in new drama

Playing Nice fans were all gripped by the same shocking realisation just minutes into the first episode of ITV’s latest psychological thriller.

In this TV adaptation of JP Delaney’s best-selling novel, viewers were introduced to two distressed couples who discover that their children were exchanged at a hospital when they were born, leaving them in an excruciating quandary: Should they retain the child they’ve cherished or opt for their biological offspring?

The plot follows Pete (played by James Norton) and Maddie (Niamh Algar), whose worlds are turned upside down on Sunday’s (January 5) airing as they find out that their son Theo was actually switched at birth.

Thrown into turmoil with Miles (James McArdle) and Lucy (Jessica Brown Findlay) plus their own son David, what appeared to be a consensus on resolving the situation quickly unveils undercurrents of deceit.

The drama heightened as Pete and Maddie, pushed to their limits, realised they will do whatever it takes to preserve their family unit. Viewers flocked to the platform formerly known as Twitter to voice their theories after the gripping premiere.

One viewer speculated: “Wonder if Pete’s wife swapped them at birth.” Meanwhile, another stirred intrigue with a twisty idea: “WHAT IF…… one mother had an affair, and swapped the babies to cover it up so if father suspected anything the DNA test would open a bigger can of worms to distract from the possibility of an affair because he isn’t the biological father of either child? “, reports Cornwall Live.

A third person speculated: “The woman swapped the babies on purpose. Just a theory.” This was echoed by another, who said: “I bet you the Blonde mum swapped them at birth and it wasn’t the hospital.”

The plot thickens following actor James Norton’s comments where he expressed his enjoyment of filming in the stunning vistas of Cornwall and his foray into surf school for his role.

He shared: “I love filming in Cornwall! It’s been an amazing experience. Miles and Lucy’s home is located on the top of a hill overlooking a beautiful beach and on the second day of filming James McArdle, who plays Miles, and I had to surf for a scene which was really fun.”

Norton continued, describing the scenic delights and local charm they experienced: “We had the dramatic Cornish landscape to work with and we filmed on some of the most beautiful cliffs and coastline in the country. St Ives is very beautiful and we went pottering around the town during lunch breaks. It’s a really special thing to entrench ourselves in the community.”
