Glenn Powell and Timothée Chalamet lookalike winners take to the Golden Globes red carpet

The winners of the Glenn Powell and Timothée Chalamet lookalike contests, which were a pop culture phenomenon in the latter half of 2024, made their red carpet debuts at the Golden Globes.

Maxwell Braunstein, Powell’s doppelgänger, and Miles Mitchell, Chalamet’s double, each dressed as the award-nominated actors and held up signs that read, “I won a lookalike contest and now I’m at the Golden Globes.”

Braunstein sported Powell’s iconic aviator sunglasses, which he popularized with his role as Lt. Jake “Hangman” Seresin in “Top Gun: Maverick.” Meanwhile, Mitchell gave Timothée’s signature sultry look to the camera.

Who did Glen Powell bring as a Golden Globes date? It’s no surprise

“Hit Man” actor Glen Powell’s best red carpet accessory is always his parents!

Cyndy and Glen Powell Sr. have been trolling their son by holding up hilarious handmade signs at his press events all year, but the two seem to be on their best behavior tonight.

Powell and his parents are all looking dapper and excited in black, and father and son are both sporting dark sunglasses.

Who decides on the Golden Globes?

Good question — and one that has caused controversy in the past.

The Golden Globes are decided on by a 334-member voting body comprised of entertainment journalists from around the world — 85 countries, according to its website.

Previously, the Globes was voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which came under fire for lack of diversity within its ranks, which critics say is reflected in its nominees and wins. After a Los Angeles Times expose revealed the HFPA had no Black members, the HFPA expanded membership.

The Globes were sold in 2023 to a new owner that shut down the HFPA.

Timothée Chalamet is seated next to Kylie Jenner, behind-the-scenes video shows

Timothée Chalamet has been seated next to his rumored girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, at the Golden Globes on Jan. 5, according to a behind-the-scenes video shared by IndieWire on Instagram.

This is the second year in a row that the Chalamet, who has been nominated for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown, has been seated beside the reality television star.

At the Golden Globes in January 2024, the two shared a flirtatious moment caught on camera. Jenner was seen touching Chalamet’s necklace as the two exchanged a few words and a kiss.

The Jan. 5 video showed that the two were also seated with Chalamet’s co-star Elle Fanning, who plays Sylvie Russo in “A Complete Unknown.”

The highs and lows of last year’s Golden Globes

The Golden Globes had a notable attendee last year: Taylor Swift, who took to the show in a green (and “Reputation”-coded, fans thought) dress.

When comedian Jo Koy made a few cracks about her during his monologue, Swift’s reaction went viral. Koy joked about her recent appearances at NFL games to support her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Koy told the Los Angeles Times he “didn’t understand” the reaction to that joke in his monologue, which received, in general, a lukewarm response.

“What hurts the most is me just supporting Taylor, I support her, I love her work. I got nieces that I bought tickets for. There’s no ill intent in that joke. The joke is about the NFL and how they keep using cutaways to (her),” he said.

Other highlights from the night included a sketch from Will Ferrell and Kristin Wiig that left Matt Damon in tears, Reese Witherspoon taking her son Deacon Phillippe as a date and, of course, awards.

“Oppenheimer” won best motion picture (drama), “Poor Things” won best motion picture (comedy). Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Lily Gladstone, Emma Stone, The Holdovers and Paul Giammati won in major acting categories.
