Grout is the white lines between tiles that can be difficult to keep clean, but it does not need to be a struggle as long as you use the right products.
It is important to clean tile grout as it tends to collect debris, dust and spills easily, and when left too long, it can become .
However, Amanda, a expert and founder of , has shared you do not have to spend any money to clean your tiles as the best cleaner is already sitting in your kitchen cupboard.
She said: “I have in my pantry, things that could sit on the floor for a while and really do half the hard work for me, before wasting more time scrubbing or more money on something store-bought, stinky, expensive and ineffective.
“Thus, I created a homemade cleaning solution with , , & water and let it do half the hard work. Can I just say? WOW, did it ever work.”

How does it work?
It may sound strange, but both lemons and white vinegar are acidic, which means they can break down stains and have antibacterial properties.
The citric acid in lemons also whitens grout to make it look brighter, while the acetic acid in vinegar kills bacteria and spores to prevent mould from being able to grow.
Baking soda is abrasive, and when it is mixed with an acid (like lemon juice or vinegar), it creates a fizzy reaction that lifts away grease or other stains.
This is a natural, homemade solution that is perfect for cleaning grout without spending money on expensive commercial cleaning products.
How to make a natural grout cleaner
You will need:
- 1.60 litres of water
- 120g of baking soda
- Juice of one lemon (around 80ml)
- 60ml of white vinegar
- Hard-bristled brush
- Empty spray bottle or container

What to do:
You need only mix the cleaning solution together and spray or pour it onto your tiles.
Let it sit for five to ten minutes to allow the ingredients to break down the grime on the grout.
Once the time is up, use a brush to wipe the grout, and the dirt should easily come away without having to spend ages scrubbing the tiles.
Amanda said: “I still had to get down there with a brush to get every nook and cranny sparkling, but it was nothing compared to how long and hard I used to have to work to see anything resembling white between these tiles.”
Your tile grout should be cleaned, white and brightened after using this simple homemade solution.
