In a rare insight into his home life, favourite John Craven has opened up about one peculiar habit that he has adopted down the years.

In a recent interview with Countryfile magazine, the presenter shared how he has always had a desire to live beside the seaside, but has “never managed to achieve living there”.

He said: “All my life I’ve dreamt of a home by the seashore but somehow have never managed to achieve it.

“Instead, I live in the centre of England – yet it’s only a 90-minute drive to the nearest beach, where I can relax, breathe in the ozone, poke among the rock pools and recharge the batteries.”

He said: “Confession time: sometimes I sit in my garden, play recordings of the sea and pretend I’m there, doing just that.”

Besides his evident love for the beautiful vistas that the seaside provides, he was eager to mention the importance of looking after the sea, describing it as “a vital element in this country’s lifeblood”, as he urged people to rally together to “save the sea, no matter where we live.”

John may served an exceptionally long career in broadcasting, but it seems like the host has little plans to call it a day on his career anytime soon.
