Reason why Ruben Amorim dropped Alejandro Garnacho as Man Utd star rejects claim

forward Alejandro Garnacho was reportedly dropped from the squad last month for his behaviour towards . Along with Marcus Rashford, for the 2-1 win over last month, and has not started for the Red Devils since.

Prior to the derby clash, United had won 2-1 at Viktoria Plzen in the , with Garnacho appearing as a late substitute.

But it as he was preparing to come on that he allegedly disrespected his manager, leading to disciplinary action.

According to , Garnacho angered Amorim on the touchline by appearing to turn his back on him while he was being given instructions. He did eventually appear in the 81st minute as a replacement for Diogo Dalot, moments before struck a late winner for the visitors.

Representatives of the 20-year-old are said to have denied that the player was deliberately being disrespectful. They have also seemingly insisted there is no rift between Garnacho and Amorim, despite him being benched for the four games since the City win.

That’s after he was one of his side’s most critical performers in the 2023/24 campaign, playing 50 times in all competitions. And after dropping him, Amorim did say he was pleased with how the Getafe youth product has reacted.

“Really good (his reaction),” he said. “Trained really well. He seems a little bit upset with me and that is perfect. I was really, really happy because I would do the same and he is ready for this game. So we’ll see in the end of this training.”

It remains to be seen whether Garnacho will now be reinstalled in the starting line-up at Anfield on Sunday. Despite their dramatic win over the champions in December, United have since floundered badly, suffering four consecutive league and cup defeats.
