Jonathan David

United do not have any dependable strikers, with and Joshua Zirkzee simply not good enough for a club of their stature. They could do worse than to pursue a move for Jonathan David, who has been ripping it up for Lille in recent seasons.David will be out of contract at the end of the campaign, meaning he will be available on a free transfer in the summer. United need him now, though, and could lodge a cut-price bid in an attempt to sign him early.

Bart Verbruggen

Another competent goalkeeper would provide Andre Onana with more competition for a regular first-team spot. Altay Bayindir showed that he was not up to the task during an error-strewn performance against in the Carabao Cup.Brighton stopper Bart Verbruggen would be the ideal signing in this position, given his young age and impressive displays for the Seagulls. He would have every chance of displacing Onana as United’s starting goalkeeper if he brings his form to Old Trafford.

Morten Hjulmand

A new midfield signing must be a priority for United, with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in need of replacing. There are plenty of big names out there but the Red Devils could reap the rewards of signing Morten Hjulmand, a player Amorim knows well. The 25-year-old would offer a long-term solution in the middle of the park and could form a formidable pairing with Kobbie Mainoo or Manuel Ugarte. However, it remains to be seen if Sporting would be willing to sell him to United in the middle of the season.

Geovany Quenda

United could also raid Sporting for the services of Geovany Quenda, who has already excelled under Amorim’s wing-back system on the right side. He boasts a great deal of potential at just 17 years of age, making him a natural successor to Noussair Mazraoui.A move would certainly not come cheap, but it could be worth every penny for United. They desperately need to make their system work and signing a player who has already mastered it would go a long way to improving their fortunes.

Milos Kerkez

The signing of a wing-back on the opposite flank would also pay dividends for United. They have been trying to fit square pegs into round holes by playing Diogo Dalot out of position, which has not exactly worked wonders for them with Luke Shaw absent.Bournemouth ace Milos Kerkez has already been linked with the Red Devils and would be a definite upgrade based on current form. However, it might take some work for United to convince him that joining them would not be a backwards step.
