‘I tried viral de-icing hack for my car windscreen and instantly regretted it’

A man shared the trauma he experienced after he tried a viral de-icing hack that did not work out the way that he had planned.

Jordan, who posts on as @jordan_the_stallion8, stitched a video of someone pouring boiling water onto their frozen windshield, sharing that it’s not the right thing to do. But how did he learn his lesson?

In a tragic story, Jordan explained that if you follow this , the windscreen will “shatter immediately,” saying: “I know that from personal experience because when I was younger, I was always so fascinated about how the windshield of the car would freeze overnight, so I thought ‘oh if I put hot water on the windshield, the ice will go away’.”

So, he decided to try this theory out on his neighbour’s brand new , which was “the nicest car in the neighbourhood” – and it didn’t go well.

“I filled up my insulated hot water bottle with really hot water, I went across the street, I poured it on his windshield, and it shattered immediately,” he recalled.

However, rather than just leaving it and realising that it was obviously not a hack worth bothering with, he believed it was “just a coincidence,” so he tried it with another window “of the same car”.

It obviously also broke that window, and he thought to himself “maybe it was two coincidences,” trying it on a third window.

“It shattered, and I thought ‘maybe I’m the problem’,” he admitted, saying that it was only then he figured out that it was the hot water, so he “panicked and left,” hoping his neighbour would never know what he’d been up to.

But, sadly, at the scene, he left his water bottle which said ‘property of Jordan’ on it, so it was obvious who the culprit was.

Because of his experiment, he had to “make monthly payments” to his neighbour, so he shared his “natural de-icer” to ensure others did not make the same mistake he did.

He said: “Just put cold water, isopropyl alcohol, and dish soap [together] and that will make a natural de-icer that has a lower freezing point than water.

“Spray it overnight, and it should help by making your windows not freeze over.”
