Homicide detectives called in to investigate marina death in Port Moody

The body of a woman in her 60s was found in the water at Reed Point Marina on New Year’s Day.

Homicide detectives have been called in to investigate the death of a woman in her 60s at a marina in Port Moody New Year’s Day.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed Saturday that the woman’s death is considered suspicious.

On Wednesday, shortly after 9 a.m., Port Moody Police responded to a report of a body in the water at Reed Point Marina, located at 850 Barnet Highway.

With assistance from the Coast Guard, the woman’s body was retrieved from the water. Port Moody police officers led the initial investigation.

Sgt. Freda Fong, a spokesperson for IHIT, said they have not ruled out foul play.

IHIT members were in the area Saturday canvassing for witnesses and video surveillance.

Investigators will not be releasing the identity of the woman because the family has asked for privacy.

Fong urged anyone who was in the area of Reed Point Marina between 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 who may have seen something to call IHIT.

Investigators are also asking for dashcam video.
