The (FCDO) has issued updated advice for Britons travelling to after the nation declared a state of emergency on December 30.

The emergency measures, which remain in effect, were introduced in response to escalating gang-related violence across the country.

While no curfews or restrictions on public gatherings have been imposed, have been warned to expect heightened security measures.

Police and military forces have been granted expanded powers under the state of emergency, including the ability to search individuals and properties without a warrant.

They are also authorised to arrest and detain people without requiring prior approval.

The FCDO has stressed the importance of carrying identification at all times and fully complying with local authorities.

The advisory stated: “Expect heightened police and military presence. Always carry your ID and comply with local authorities.”

Trinidad and Tobago is a popular destination known for its lively Carnival celebrations, a blend of African, Indian, and European cuisine, golden beaches, and diverse wildlife.

However, British visitors are urged to remain cautious during this period and consult up-to-date travel guidance before planning a trip.

The FCDO advised travellers to review its latest advice on safety, entry requirements, health precautions, and insurance policies to ensure their journey remains safe.
