Coronation Street’s “worst storyline” is confirmed
fans voted on the soap’s best and worst plots in a new debate – and one particular one is said to be “sucking the life out of the show”.
In a verdict some may find surprising, it’s the Joel Deering grooming plot, along with his murder at the hands of a terrified Lauren Bolton, which was declared underwhelming. Fans blasted that Joel, played by Calum Lill, delivered a “mediocre” performance.
“Worst: 1) JOE, 2) JOEL’S MURDER, 3) LITERALLY ANYTHING WITH LAUREN – all for the same reason,” one exclaimed. “It was literally so boring for me and kind of unnecessary to introduce [Joel] to be some sort of grooming villain all just to kill him off in the same year.”
Others suggested the storyline had continued for so long that it had become “draining”, with one blasting the police involvement and swiping: “If ITV want a cop show then they should resurrect The Bill!” That might just be in the works, with
Meanwhile, fans continued to unleash their storyline frustrations, arguing that grooming victim Lauren “was awful and is sucking the life out of the show”. Although Cait Fitton’s character has been through hell, from attacks by Joel to his attempt to kill their baby after she becomes pregnant by him and frame her for it, some viewers seem to lack sympathy.

Meanwhile, former runner-up Jack Carroll, who plays Bobby Crawford, has also ruffled some fans’ feathers.
He entered BGT aged just 14 and even signed a deal with s company Syco to write an autobiography, before making a name for himself as a stand-up comedian.
Jack also appeared in One drama Doctors and Sky One’s Trollied, among others.
However, one fan branded his prior jobs and connections in the industry before joining as “nepotism” and savagely took a swipe at the star, who plays the nephew of lingerie company boss Carla (Alison King).

“I’ve not been invested in anything this year, I’ve actually missed loads as I stopped regularly watching when Bobby arrived. I’m really bitter about his arrival as I loathe nepotism,” the fan blasted.
However, one thing everyone seems agreed on so far is the gripping nature of the Paul Foreman storyline, which saw Peter Ash portray the character gradually fading away due to MND (motor neurone disease).
“The only storyline that really stood out was Paul’s. Peter Ash’s performances were phenomenal—raw, understated, and heartbreakingly real,” one viewer raved.
“While the storyline was not without its flaws, it was, rather extraordinarily for a modern issue-based story, a slow burn handled largely with sensitivity.”
May 2025 bring a whole host of new and equally gripping stories for the ITV soap.
