However, recent data from the revealed that a staggering 10,056 drivers still hold a valid licence even though they have at least 12 points on it.
The recent analysis found that one individual has a ridiculous 176 penalty points on his licence.

Thousands of motorists with 12 points on their licence are still on the roads.
Analysis revealed two more motorists were above 100 while a whopping 53 people have at least 30 points on their record.
The petitioners said: “Make it an automatic driving ban until you retake your driving test when you reach 12 points on your driving licence.

The poll will run until June, with 10,000 signatures needed for an official Government response.
A hefty 100,000 signatures are required for the policy to be considered for debate by MPs in Parliament.
Those behind the petition have even called for stricter rules, including introducing a mandatory retake if road users breach the threshold.
They added: “We think drivers should be forced to retake their tests if they get 12 points…Vehicle’s are weapons and must be driven safely.”
Under current rules, motorists might only be asked to retake a test if they were disqualified for a minimum of 56 days or more.
However, this is at the court’s discretion, meaning there is no hard rule regarding a forced resit.

This could give judges reason to allow motorists to keep hold of a licence even after the 12-point level has been passed.
