The BBC Breakfast put out their own warnings after the recently issued rare amber warnings for snow and ice, with the first weather disruption due to land from 6pm tonight (Saturday, January 4).
On the programme, Sarah Campbell and Ben Thompson had just delved into a segment about ponds across the UK when Sarah was naturally guided to the cold temperatures landing this weekend.
The host pointed out that meteorologist Sarah Keith-Lucas appeared via video link in the studio. Ben’s co-star Sarah said: “There’s going to be a few frozen ponds this weekend which links us nicely to this morning’s weather.”
“It is going to be cold for a lot of us,” stated Sarah as weather expert Sarah Keith-Lucas stepped in to take the reins, adding: “It is indeed. Yes.”
She continued to warn viewers: “We have got some cold weather on the way this weekend, relatively calm start to the weekend but things are going to turn quite disruptive in terms of the weather.”

Residents have been pre-warned that they must braced for up to 14 inches of snowfall by the end of today with the issuing two rare amber warnings.
One amber warning for snow and ice from 6pm to 12pm on Sunday covers Gloucestershire, Wales, Birmingham, Worcestershire, Manchester while another warning for snow between 9pm and 11.59 on Sunday covers Northern England.
Temperatures are expected to plummet to a bone-chilling -5C overnight, with the country gearing up for for more sub-zero conditions as the weekend continues.
Sarah explained: “Especially later on today, so this evening and overnight too. We’ve got amber warnings that have been issued by the for snow and for ice across parts of England and Wales in particular.
“But any of us could see some snowy weather over the next couple of days but these are the areas we are most concerned about seeing disruption so across Wales and right through the Midlands, this amber warning for snow and ice is valid from 6pm today.”
Sarah urges that snow is on the way
Pointing to the map behind her on the screen, the expert stated: “A little bit further north (pointing to Scotland on the map) this second warning is valid for snow from 9pm today and much of northern England.”
She further urged that the cold weather was here to stay for a prolonged period and advised that “the next 48 hour at least” were going to cause disruption, especially across northern regions of the UK. Sarah predicted that most parts of the country would see highs of just four or five degrees.
Giving a clearer picture of the amount of snow UK folk could expect over the next few days, the TV star detailed: “There could be 30cm of snow totting up in the Peak District and northern parts of the Pennine, up to 40cms on top of the higher ground.
“Even at lower ground levels we should expect to see around three to seven centimetres of snow.

Sarah added: “So a cold start again for many of us tomorrow but much much milder towards the south so that snow will quickly turn back to rain across southern parts across England and Wales.”
Finally she signed off with a warning: “Keep yourselves up to date with all the latest warnings. You can find the details on our website or by downloading the weather app.”
“Really useful advice Sarah, thank you,” responded her co-star Ben in the studio.
