Fahim Hanif, 21, and his relatives arrived four hours early to secure a prime spot on London’s Southwark Bridge to watch the city’s iconic firework display.

But Fahim and his family were left disappointed when they couldn’t see a single firework.

The dazzling display was blocked by tall buildings near the London Eye, where the fireworks were launched from.

Fahim, a digital marketer, from Egham, Surrey, said: “We assumed the fireworks would go high into the sky.

“We didn’t realise they were so close to the London Eye.

“It was just a waste of time – four hours in the cold and we couldn’t see a thing.”

Fahim and his family weren’t the only ones on London’s Southwark Bridge as hundreds of excited spectators had gathered nearby – hoping to see the display.

Fahim said: “There were people smoking, drinking and some seemed to enjoy the vibe but I was just fed up.”

Despite the disappointment, Fahim stayed for the entire show hoping for a glimpse that never came.

This was Fahim’s first and likely last time attempting to see London’s famous fireworks.

He said: “If you’re going to watch, either pay for a ticket or know a good free spot.

“Honestly, you’re better off watching it on TV.”
