Brits are bracing themselves for snow chaos this weekend with the acrosss the country.

New weather maps from WXCharts indicate when the will begin to bite in as the icy blast .

show an Artic blast entering the country from the south on Saturday around 3pm as areas around Cardiff and Southhampton turn white.

The freezing conditions will gradually move upwards and by Sunday morning, more cities like Manchester and London will be left covered under snow.

By Sunday evening, the cities in the north will witness to the cold snap as the maps show Edinburgh and Newcastle getting 5-6cm of snow per hour.

It comes as the warned of fierce conditions over the weekend. At present, there is a for several parts of the UK.

The forecaster said: “Whilst not all areas may be affected, outbreaks of snow will likely develop during Sunday and Sunday night, potentially giving some significant accumulations in places.

“The greatest risk is in southern and eastern Scotland, where 2-5cm may accumulate in quite a few places and perhaps as much as 10-20 cm over high ground.

“Rain or sleet is more likely near some northern and eastern coasts.”

Paul Gundersen is a chief forecaster for the who stressed the severe weather warnings that have been slapped on much of the country.

He said: “Northern parts of the UK are already experiencing colder conditions but by Thursday morning the much colder air will reach remaining parts of the south and southeast.

“Overnight we have a series of National Severe Weather Warnings in place with a combined yellow warning for both snow and ice for northern Scotland, while a yellow ice warning is in place as far south as the Midlands.”

He added: “Standing water remaining from the heavy rainfall of the last few days will freeze, creating a risk for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians navigating untreated surfaces. Wintry showers remain a hazard especially for north-facing coasts and hills.”

Below we breakdown what Brits living can expert in different parts of the country – and when.

Scotland

Heavy snowfall is possible in Scotland cities from Sunday morning as it gets worst by end of the day.

As per the weather maps, the worst affected areas would be around Fort William which may see 20cm of snow per hour.

North East

The North East part of the country is likely to turn white on Sunday (January 5) at around 3pm, maps show.

As the day progresses, layers of snow is likely to cover the areas of Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear and a small part of North Yorkshire.

Around 10-12 cm of snow per hour is likely to accumulate on the areas, the maps suggest.

North West

The North West areas of the country will remain covered under snow from Saturday 9pm till Sunday 3pm, the weather maps have suggested.

Around 1-2cm of snow per hour will fall on these areas as the yellow warnings remain in place.

Midlands

By 9pm, Saturday, most of the Midlands will be covered under a thick layer of snow, the weather maps have suggested.

The cold weather conditions are likely to last for few hours before it moves ahead to the northern parts.

Sunday could see some snow on the ground before it converts into rain, maps show.

The has issued a yellow warning of ice for East and West Midlands. The warning come in place from 4pm on Friday and will last till 10am on Saturday (January 4).

South West & South East

The South West and South East parts of the country will witness wintry conditions at the same time.

Areas such as Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey and Buckinghamshire will start experiencing the snowy conditions from around 3pm on Saturday (January 4), weather maps have suggested.

Around 1cm of snow per hour is likely to fall on these areas with temperature level falling to 0C.

Wales

Wales will experience snowy conditions at around 3pm on Saturday (January 4) as weather maps have turned white indicating the possibility of wintry conditions.

However, the areas are likely to see a rare weather event on freezing rain on Sunday, maps have suggested.

As the maps turn orange, the rare weather phenomenon which is mostly common in the US, will affect the parts till Sunday evening.
