December is the year’s busiest month for the nation’s flag-carrier postal service, but there’s still a chance of delays even after the festivities.

‘s huge network for moving letters and parcels across the country spans air, rail and road mediums.

Households in Gosport postcodes PO12 and PO13, expecting a Royal Mail delivery today, may face delays due to local issues affecting the Gosport Delivery Office.

The Gosport PO12 postcode covers Alverstoke and Hardway. Lee-on-the-Solent is located within the PO13 postcode area.

According to Royal Mail, delays may be caused by high levels of sickness absence, resourcing issues, and other local factors. Customers have been assured that in such cases, Royal Mail will “rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers”.

As for the rest of the UK, deliveries are expected to be normal today. However, yellow weather warnings from the could cause disruption tomorrow, Saturday, January 4.

A yellow weather warning is in place for the north of England and Scotland between 4pm today and 10am tomorrow. The warned of “icy surfaces leading to difficult travel conditions.”

On Saturday, January 4, yellow and amber weather warnings for snow and ice are in place throughout most of the UK.

The top of Scotland, right down to the southern coast of England, has been warned of “heavy snow and some freezing rain in places” that may “cause some disruption over the weekend.”

Royal Mail warned: “When there is severe weather – such as significant snowfall, icy conditions or localised flooding – your street or some of the roads on route to your address may become too dangerous to access.”

The postal service added: “We will always make every attempt to get your mail to you daily if it’s safe for us to do so. Our postmen and women may start their rounds but are unable to finish them because of issues along the way.”

It should be noted that weather conditions can improve or deteriorate quickly, so Royal Mail undertake risk assessments throughout the day to ensure it is doing all it can to get to as many addresses as possible.
