An automotive expert has warned that a could overtake Tesla, becoming the in the UK.
While many drivers look forward to the wide range of models due to launch in 2025, manufacturers will be under even more pressure to ensure they sell enough .
According to Thom Groot, CEO of , one company set to do particularly well in 2025 is the , which could sell more EVs in the UK than .
He explained: “2025 is still to lose in terms of the most popular EVs, but we predict it will be closer than ever, with other models closing the gap.
“There is also likely to be a big jump generally in the popularity of EVs, as affordability increases, and the used market continues to mature. Manufacturers such as could soon be a common site on UK roads, but recognisable producers such as Volvo and Volkswagen are still set to make an impact.”

Despite only launching on the UK market in autumn 2022, BYD offers a comprehensive range of electric vehicles, ranging from the Dolphin supermini to the executive Sealion 7 coupe-SUV.
While many Brits are still suspicious about the quality of Chinese-made cars, with some models suffering from heavy depreciation on the used market, affordable retail prices are helping to tempt many buyers.
The company recently announced selling 207,734 electric models worldwide in December 2024, with some motoring experts predicting that the figure will continue to increase across 2025.

Nevertheless, The Electric Car Scheme’s most anticipated model of 2025 is still the facelifted version of the Tesla Model Y SUV, dubbed the Juniper.
The Tesla Model Y Juniper, due to be released at the end of 2025, will likely have a sleeker front end like the smaller Model 3. Some spy photos suggest a Cybertruck-style LED light bar will span across the edge of the bonnet.
Some motoring experts have also predicted that a new powertrain could be fitted to boost the Model Y’s range beyond the 373 miles it can cover on a single charge.
