The interview took an unexpected turn towards the end when Naga posed a rather peculiar question to the duo behind Joyce Highland and Rosalind Clifford from Call the Midwife.

Catching the actresses by surprise, she asked: “Who was the last person to drop a baby on-set? ” The guests were shocked and gasped before offering their answers. Natalie replied: “I don’t think that’s ever happened.”

To which Renee added: “I think that’s the one thing that everyone can probably say hands down has never happened, yet!”

Naga probed further about mishaps involving the model babies used in filming, but the actresses assured her that they’ve all been treated as carefully as living infants. As they shared a laugh, Renee and Natalie jointly exclaimed: “No!”

Renee went on to describe the surprising weight of the model babies used during production to which Natalie concurred, noting: “They’re much heavier than the real babies.”

Charlie delved into whether the actors could tell the difference between the synthetic and the actual babies on-set, to which they admitted the task is often tough due to the realism of the replicas, reports .

Natalie disclosed her co-star’s initial shock as Renee described: “In the beginning they do look really real, it’s quite scary actually. To the point where you’re like, ‘who has left the baby on the counter!'”

During the same interview, they delved into how they discover storylines within the series. Natalie revealed that the actors receive scripts one episode at a time.

She remarked: “I don’t know when we start the season what’s necessarily going to happen at the end of the season, so it is like a little present every time you get that email with the script and you’re like, ‘Oh god, what’s going to happen?!”

The 14th season of Call the Midwife is set to debut on One on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 8pm.

The upcoming episode’s brief summary states: “In March 1970, the team support a pregnant teenage girl whose parents believe in an immaculate conception. Demonstrations cause havoc for the Nonnatus team, whilst Nancy’s relationship blossoms.”
