However, as the final was aired the host, Amol, was criticised online. Fans watching at home took to social media, namely to share their frustrations.
One fan wrote: “The lack of knowledge across the specials has been truly perplexing! What’s more is the number of times they have to be reminded of the rules! @amolrajan needs to crack down on it next time. This is a serious competition. #UniversityChallenge.”

Meanwhile a third complained: “Watched University Challenge as long as I can remember & always enjoyed it with its various presenters. I gave Amol Rajan a chance but really disliked his manner + the new set-up. I gave it another go last night. It was still awful – no witty banter as he just reads the screen.”
The quiz master reponded, offering an apology as he Tweeted: “Sorry I couldn’t persuade you, Agnes. Thanks for the second chance. #UniversityChallenge.”
However, it seems others much enjoyed Amol’s presenting skills and showered him in praise. One fan gushed: “What a thriller, winning on the final starter. Fabulous Christmas series of #UniversityChallenge, one of the best yet @amolrajan.
