Later this month, President-elect Donald Trump will hold a rally in Washington, D.C., his first there since the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol almost four years ago.
His “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” is scheduled to take place the afternoon of Jan. 19, the day before he’s slated to be inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States.
“Join President Trump at Capital One Arena for a victory rally you’ll never forget!” a registration page for the event reads.
The event could be an indicator that Trump plans to continue holding rallies throughout his presidency, even though he’s not eligible for another term in the White House.
The arena has a capacity of around 20,000 people.
This marks the first time Trump has held a rally in the nation’s capital since Jan. 6, 2021, when he falsely insisted to a crowd of his supporters that he’d defeated President Joe Biden in the election and directed them to march to the U.S. Capitol. Once there, hundreds of his followers stormed the building, assaulting law enforcement officers in an effort to carry out violence against lawmakers and stop the certification of electoral votes.
Trump visited Capitol Hill for the first time since the 2021 riot in June, when he met with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and other Republicans. Matt Gaetz, then a Florida congressman and key Trump ally, described it at the time as “a pep rally for President Trump.”
Jan. 19 will also be the first time Trump has headlined a rally since declaring victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in November’s election.
