Amy Dowden said she still hopes to become a parent one day after freezing five embryos with her husband ahead of her treatment for breast cancer.

The 34-year-old, who experienced early menopause as a result of chemotherapy, admitted she would ‘love’ to start a family and is hopeful that she and her husband Ben will be ‘lucky enough’ to have children.

The Strictly dancer said she is currently taking each day as it comes and said if they can’t have children biologically – then they will look into the ‘other opportunities’.

Dowden told the What If podcast:

“I’m just saying yes to as many opportunities and living life to the full, spending time with loved ones as well and obviously, we would love a family.

“And we’ve got embryos because obviously I’ve got a hormone fed cancer, so I had to go to menopause, which happened the day I started chemo.

“So in a couple of years, when they feel it’s safe to, hopefully we’ll have the opportunity. “And if not, there’s still lots of other opportunities, which we have spoken about.”

The Caerphilly-born performer, who is married to fellow-dancer Ben Jones, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in May 2023.

Dowden finished her chemotherapy treatment in November last year and has since revealed she had five embryos frozen to preserve her chances of having children in the future.

“So yeah, hopefully in years to come, we’ll be lucky enough to become parents too,” she continued. “But, you know – take every day as it comes.

“You know what, at the moment, we’re just, you know… this time last year, we were about to go through a rollercoaster.
