A Spanish sip is coming to America’s largest coffee chain.
Starbucks just announced its winter menu, with new and returning treats, as well as the addition of the cortado, which originates from Spain, to its espresso beverage lineup.
What is a cortado?
The name “cortado” comes from the Spanish word “cortar,” which means “to cut,” because of the way steamed milk cuts through the intensity of the espresso.
Starbucks’ cortado joins its roster of espresso-based beverages like the Latte, Americano, Macchiato and Espresso Con Panna.
The drink is only served hot in a short size (8 ounces) and features three ristretto shots of Blonde Espresso “cut” with steamed milk. Customers can also order a sweeter, nondairy version of the drink: the new Brown Sugar Oatmilk Cortado.
Other winter menu items
In addition to the Cortado, there are a few new and returning favorites coming to the green siren:

- Pistachio Cream Cold Brew: This returning-for-a-limited-time drink takes Starbucks Cold Brew sweetened with vanilla syrup and tops it with pistachio cream cold foam and salted brown buttery sprinkles.
- Spicy Falafel Pocket: This new, certified vegan, permanent menu addition combines smashed falafel, hummus, roasted red bell peppers, pickled onions and a spicy herb sauce inside toasted lavash.
- Vanilla Bean Custard Danish: This returning, limited-time treat features layers of sugared Danish dough filled with vanilla bean custard.
- Valentine Cake Pop: This limited-time dessert takes vanilla cake mixed with buttercream and dips it in red chocolate icing decorated with a heart design.
