Speeding Rolls-Royce traffic stop uncovers DUI, drugs, baby monkey

The year-ending traffic stop – which took place not in Florida, but California – ended with the animal delivered to a safe location

  • The California driver of a 2022 Rolls-Royce was stopped December 30 for allegedly speeding
  • Officers found the driver under the influence, and also uncovered intent-to-distribute amounts of cannabis—and a baby spider monkey
  • The driver is facing a long list of charges, and the animal is reportedly safe

That is not a sentence your author expected to type today.

Starting with the most important part of this traffic stop, officials say the spider monkey is estimated to be about one month old, and was found wearing a pink sweater. The young primate is said to have been brought to a safe location by Animal Control, where it will presumably be cared for in a proper manner before being homed in an appropriate place. It is illegal to keep exotic animals, including primates, as pets in California.

As for other infractions, the unnamed driver is facing allegations of driving under the influence and was hauled away on a DUI charge. They were also apparently found in possession of cannabis for the intent of resale. The shiny white Rolls was impounded and its driver booked at the Madera County Jail.

We hope the small primate quickly finds itself in safe and appropriate care. As for the driver, they’ll be facing a laundry list of charges.
