George Russell has been put on alert amid questions over Max Verstappen’s future
Jos Verstappen has put the world on notice after once again suggesting son could leave – with ‘s a potential destination. Russell, 26, is set to assume the role of the Silver Arrows’ primary driver this year after ‘s move to , with Kimi Antonelli stepping up as his new deputy.
Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounds Verstappen’s long-term future in Milton Keynes, especially after his father expressed dissatisfaction with their car’s performance this season. Both have taken umbrage with ‘s 2024 design despite securing a fourth consecutive world title, and Jos’ comments have fueled rumours of a possible departure.
Verstappen Sr raised eyebrows during a recent conversation with Münchner Merkur/tz media, saying (via ): ” needs to build a car that is no longer so difficult to drive. Anything is possible. Despite having a contract with until 2028, there are whispers Verstappen Jr may either cut his stay short or consider early retirement. chief is known to admire the Dutchman, which could potentially put Russell’s position in jeopardy should he one day become a realistic target.

Russell said at the time he’d be “all for it” and is keen to challenge himself against F1’s elite talents – although opinions may have shifted following recent events. The notion of him and Verstappen as team-mates would not guarantee harmony, with the pair purportedly .
Despite this, Jos’ latest statement might imply Russell’s position could be under threat should a decision between him and Verstappen arise. And given Wolff’s admiration and his consistent success to date in his career, it may be a simple decision for the boss – and not in his current driver’s favour.
