In the current housing climate, regular micro-renovations and changes are much more cost-effective than purchasing a new with those features already in place.

However, when planning a home renovation or when looking to update key pieces, it’s super important to pick options you’ll still love in months or years to come.

According to Sophie Clemson, an interior designer at , and Lorraine McGill, an interior stylist from , certain trends should be avoided in 2025.

Whilst it is all down to personal preference, the experts have shared top tips on how to ensure your home doesn’t turn into a “fashion don’t”.

This includes avoiding a minimalist nature, cool tones, and fleecy fabrics.

Minimalist nature

Sophie said: “Decorative trims and finishes are trends that are set to carry through into 2025, which I love.

“It’s the perfect way to get creative in your home and inject some of your personality into the space. Think wavy mirrors, striped table lamps, pleated fabric light shades and bobbin trims, to name but a few.”

It’s important to pick a fun, colourful piece that “speaks to you” to add some gorgeous colour to any room in the home.

Cool, icy tones

This year, ditch the cool, pared-back colour palettes and opt for warmer colours to create a welcoming, comforting space.

Sophie commented: “A warm, earthy colour palette is as popular as ever, and I don’t see this changing any time soon.”

“Colour drenching is set to continue into the New Year, which will work beautifully with the 2025 colour palette to create a cosy, natural space,” added Lorraine.

Along with deep, tonal browns, a beautiful range of greens is also set to take centre stage.

Fleecy fabrics

Fleecy fabrics, including bouclé furniture, have been a big hit throughout 2024, but according to the experts, this should be ditched in 2025.

Instead, look out for rich, textured fabrics in the earthy tonal colour palettes of 2025 to add an expensive look to your home.

Lorraine added: “Pattrns will also be big news, in both fabrics and wallpaper.

“We will see a return to the extravagance of patterned items, helping a space to feel expensive and adding a real sense of confidence and excitement to your interiors.”
