UK weather maps show giant 720-mile wall of snow stretch from Wales to Germany via London

The UK is preparing for its latest big freeze as a giant 720-mile wall of is to hit as far south as Devon in the New Year.

from WXCharts have turned various shades of people indicating that snow is on its way in the very near future.

The first dumping of heavy snow will arrive on January 15 at midnight, with the South East and South West likely to see the biggest dumping of the white stuff with up 2cm forecast per hour.

Large parts of Wales will also catch glimpses of the white stuff with key cities including Cardiff and Swansea predicted to see snow depths reach 2.5cm.

London will see a flurry of snow fall with 0.6cm forecast, however, snow in the capital will soon get worse as just 24 hours later at midnight on January 16 London could be lying under a blanket of heavy snow.

Wales is barely even visible in weather maps and some areas could even see 3cm of snow fall per hour.

Major English cities Bournemouth, Brighton, Southampton Reading and Plymouth will all see heavy snow fall.

Elsewhere across Europe the south of Germany and the Stuttgart area are likely to be swamped by a massive wall of snow.

As we go into the early hours of January 16 the East of England and the East and West Midlands could see snow fall with upto 2cm per hour predicted.

In the ‘s weather outlook for January 15-29 the forecaster is warning that “spells of cold weather are liekly, with frost, fog, and wintry showers”.

The forecaster said: “Slowly-evolving weather patterns look most likely through the second half of January, with high pressure often in the vicinity of the UK, although the flavour of the weather we experience depends on where the high and low pressure centres are relative to the UK.

“There are currently no strong signals for prolonged cold but spells of cold weather are likely, with frost, fog, and wintry showers.

“Pulses of more unsettled weather are more likely across the south than the north, and may bring milder conditions for a time too.”
