Connor Swindells has revealed that he was originally not supposed to be in the second season of . The hit series is returning for its explosive second instalment in the New Year.
Speaking exclusively to Express Online and other media outlets, the star opened up about returning to the popular historical drama after a two-year wait.
The programme documents the story of the original SAS, with Connor returning as Lt Col David Stirling and Jack O’Connell playing Major Paddy Mayne. In a nutshell – it’s all guns, death and plenty of punch-ups.
At the end of Season One, fans saw Connor’s character being taken to a prisoner of war camp. Season Two is filmed in Croatia and picks up exactly after the events of David’s capture.
Speaking about the show, he said: “I was absolutely delighted to come back, but I was only ever meant to do the first season.

“So, when [producer] Steven Knight delivered episode one and there I was page 59, and I got a call from the wonderful Stephen Smallwood asking what I was doing in the summer…I was truly delighted.”
Season One was set during the North Africa campaign, which was filmed during lockdown, and it’s safe to say that the cast and crew are grateful not to be in the Moroccan desert.
Steven said: “I mean, we, in all honesty, I think we were slightly worried about going into season two without the benefit of the desert and the scale and the beauty and the character that it provided.

“And when we set out to find, you know, what our new world of war would look like it was really important that we encountered civilians and we encountered real life and I think working in Croatia was across the board a really positive experience.
“It absolutely delivers on what we needed.”
He also shared that he would be delighted to create further seasons in the future if he was given the opportunity.
SAS Rogue Heroes series two is on iPlayer from 6am on New Year’s Day, and airs on One from 9pm that night.
