The Gaudreau family is celebrating the birth of Madeline and Matthew Gaudreau’s baby boy, Tripp.
Madeline Gaudreau was pregnant when her husband, Matthew Gaudreau, was killed in an accident along with his brother, NHL star Johnny Gaudreau, in late August. The couple had first shared the pregnancy news together on Instagram in June.
On Dec. 29, Madeline Gaudreau announced that their son had arrived. Tripp is the couple’s first child.
In the comments of Madeline Gaudreau’s post, Jane Gaudreau, the brothers’ mother, shared an encouraging message.
“Mom-Mom & Pop-Pop’s hearts are overflowing with love for you, Tripp Matthew,” Jane Gaudreau wrote. “We are so incredibly proud of you and your mommy and I know your Daddy is too!”
Jane Gaudreau posted the same uplifting words on her Instagram story, tagging her daughter-in-law and son.
On Aug. 29, the night before their sister Katie Gaudreau’s wedding, Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau were struck by an alleged drunk driver while riding bikes in their New Jersey hometown. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
More family members joined Jane Gaudreau in expressing their support for Madeline Gaudreau beneath her post.
Katie Gaudreau, one of the brothers’ two sisters, wrote, “Yay!!!!!!!!!!!! Aunt Katie loves you, mommy, and daddy SOOOO much.”
Johnny Gaudreau’s wife, Meredith Gaudreau, wrote, “I love you Baby Tripp!”
In the eulogy she read for her late husband at his joint funeral in September, Meredith Gaudreau revealed she is currently pregnant and expecting the couple’s third child.
The Gaudreau family has continued to honor Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau’s memory since the tragic incident. Weeks before Tripp was born, Jane Gaudreau posted a birthday tribute to Matthew Gaudreau on what would have been his 30th birthday.
