Jason Momoa returns to DC universe as fans say ‘it’s about time’

Jason Momoa has revealed he’s returning to the DC Universe but it’s not for the next instalment of the Aquaman series. The actor has signed on to play Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie which will see House of Dragon star Milly Alcock take on the titular role.

Jason took to to announce the exciting news as he used an excerpt from a previous interview where he said he wanted to play the iconic character.

It read: “So Lobo was… I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favourite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role.’

“I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f**k yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.” He playfully captioned the post, “They called” to confirm the news, which sent his fans into overdrive with the announcement.

Taking to , one person expressed: “At last, the DC role he was made for,” as another fan agreed: “Born to play it.” Somebody else recalled: “Remember all those years ago Jason posted a video of himself running out of a meeting with Gunn (right after James became head of Creative at DC) excited as hell, like he was the happiest he’s ever been?

“This was it. He’s been patiently waiting and James delivered Lobo to him; I cannot wait for his performance so happy for him!!”

Yet another gushed: “It’s about time,” as someone else penned: “This is one of those times when a perfect casting opportunity is present for a character that you got to use him now. Everything about Momoa fits so well for Lobo.”

Jason first descended on the DC universe back in 2016 in a cameo appearance as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

He returned as the same character in 2017’s Justice League before bagging his his own film for Aquaman in 2018.

This was followed up by the sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom which released last year and saw him reprise his dual role of the titular character and Arthur Curry.

As well as Supergirl, Jason has a rather impressive line-up of upcoming films including the Minecraft movie and live-action comedy film Animal Friends.

He also has drama In the Hand of Dante alongside Gerard Butler and Gal Gadot in his slate and buddy cop action film The Wrecking Crew.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 26 2026
