Lucy Meacock marked the end of an era
regional news presenter Lucy Meacock was in mourning on a “sad day” as she admitted “I can’t believe you’re gone.”
The Granada Reports star took to social media on Tuesday (December 31) to mark the closure of an iconic landmark in the North West – Radio City Tower.
St. Johns Beacon was used as the radio station’s home since 2000, but now the last ever show has been broadcast from the location after Radio City was renamed to Hits Radio Liverpool. The station decided not to renew its lease on the Liverpool landmark, which used to be a revolving restaurant.
Lucy took to to share some snaps of the tower – including throwbacks to the time she abseiled down the side of the 453ft structure.
“Farewell old friend – we’ll see you in our memories forever. A sad day for all those who ever worked here. Can’t believe you’re gone. Can’t believe I ever did that abseil. Thank you,” Lucy wrote.

In 2018, Lucy abseiled down the tower to raise money for Cash for Kids, a Merseyside charity that takes care of vulnerable children in the region. 103 people in total completed the feat, and Cash for Kids’ Superhero Day managed to raise more than £700,000 for the charity.
The “sad news” comes after Lucy handed in her notice at ITV after 36 years. She confessed: “This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. But the time is right to move on now.
St Johns Beacon has stopped hosting Radio City
“For me it has always been the best job in the world, with the best people in the world, in the best region in the world!
“I am very grateful that I was given this job so many years ago. I have always tried my hardest to make a positive contribution and I hope I will be remembered with some fondness in the years ahead.”
She added: “It has been a complete honour and privilege to serve the people of this region and I will always have the interests of the North West at heart.”
