After three seasons of “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On,” the Netflix dating series has a surprising success rate.
To those who aren’t familiar, each season of “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On” introduces multiple couples who at an impasse, with one person ready to get married and the other unsure.
They briefly break up, date other contestants and select new partners for a three-week trial marriage. Then, they reunite with their original partners and finally decide if they want to get engaged, break up or start a new relationship with their trial wife or husband.
The process isn’t easy: In each season, at least two contestants have exited the experiment early. In Season 3, which premiered Dec. 4, four contestants realized that the show wasn’t right for them and quickly departed. The remaining cast members continued with the emotionally taxing experience, forming connections along the way and realizing uncomfortable truths about their relationships.
At the end of the latest season, two couples got engaged while the other two called it quits. Read on to find out which Season 3 couples are still together. Plus, catch up with the stars of Seasons 1 and 2 to see where they are now.
Season 1
Shanique Brown and Randall Griffin
Relationship status: Engaged
At the end of his journey on the show, Randall Griffin reflected on the challenges he and Shanique Brown faced along the way. He called Shanique his best friend and said he has always known he wanted to marry her — and then proposed.
She said yes and they embraced. Later, they both shouted “We’re engaged!” to the camera.
But during the Season 1 reunion, co-host Vanessa Lachey pointed out that Shanique was not wearing her engagement ring. Shanique explained that the problems she and Randall had discussed on the show were still issues when they returned to real life. They broke up for six months as a result. Shanique referred to their separation as “the hardest time in her life,” but she later revealed they had reunited and were working on their relationship.
In July 2023, Randall popped the question again. The two celebrated their engagement news in a joint Instagram post.
They shared a carousel of photos that included snaps from the moment he proposed and a close look at Shanique’s diamond sparkler. “Yes! — Today and all of our tomorrows,” she captioned the slideshow and added an infinity symbol and white heart.

He explained that he had two tickets to anywhere in the world and wanted Rae to come with him. She agreed and they left together, hand in hand.
Jake and Rae decided not to go on the trip, and eventually called it quits. “We kind of came to a consensus that everybody needed time to heal,” Rae said, explaining why they chose to “backtrack.”

He assured Riah on decision day that his feelings for her were still strong and asked her to marry him. She said “yes,” but the two revealed at the reunion that they struggled after filming ended.
Shortly after the reunion aired, Riah and Trey announced on Instagram that they were expecting a baby. Their daughter, Lailanni Brunson, was born in late 2023.

Thank you for making me a mommy again @treyb16.”
Season 3
Sandy Gallagher and Nick Tramontin
Relationship status: Broken up
Out of all the Season 3 contestants, Nick seemed to struggle the most with the show’s environment. He had to continue his first trial marriage alone after Vanessa quit. From there, he started to spiral and worry that Sandy was falling for her trial marriage partner, J.R.
Sandy told TODAY.com that that portion of the experiment was “detrimental” to her relationship with Nick and they never recovered after that. So, the two broke up in the finale. After meeting on “Decision Day,” they both expressed their love for each other and explained how they changed during the show. But when Nick appeared to reach for a ring, (although he later revealed during the reunion he had a letter in his pocket) Sandy panicked. He said her reaction gave him his answer and they went their separate ways after a brief disagreement about their relationship.
“I’ll always love him and care for him as a person,” Sandy told TODAY.com. “That’s way far bigger and beyond this show and this experience. But it doesn’t mean that we have to date and get married.”
At the reunion, Nick shared he had moved on and was in a relationship.
Jon Richard “J.R.” Warren and Zaina Sesay
Relationship status: Broken up
When Zaina arrived on Decision Day, she appeared nervous but hopeful for an engagement. “You showed me so much love and care. I want to thank you for that,” J.R. told her. “I wasn’t ready to receive it before this.”
But he said he still had work to do and wasn’t ready to take the next step in their relationship. In an interview with TODAY.com, Zaina said she was “completely blindsided” by J.R.’s decision that day.
“It was just so hard to tell because the entire trial marriage he kept saying all the right things to keep me holding on to hope,” she said. “I felt like there was a possibility we would have left there together, or at least not gotten engaged and then continued our relationship off in real life.”
During the reunion, tension between the exes remained as they disagreed about the unraveling of their relationship. In Zaina’s opinion, J.R. didn’t provide clear communication after the show and she was unsure where they stood. J.R. pushed back and said he voiced his need for space but Zaina didn’t listen.
Despite their issues, Zaina still complimented J.R. for being a good person and helping her with freezing her eggs after the show.
Aria De’Westbrooks and Scotty Lewis
Relationship status: Broken up
Throughout their time on “The Ultimatum,” Aria and Scotty were on different pages. They bickered and wondered if they were the right fit for each other. Meanwhile, Aria developed a connection with her trial husband, Caleb, who was more understanding and supportive compared to Scotty.
But on Decision Day, Scotty promised to give Aria the love she had been waiting for. “Above all else, I just want you to know that I choose you, right now, today, and for all of my tomorrows. Because you are not just a woman that I want to be with. You are the woman that I can’t be without,” he said before proposing. She tearfully accepted and they left the show engaged.
During the reunion, Aria revealed that she had a change of heart almost instantly and broke off the engagement a day later. She became emotional as she explained how she didn’t think Scotty lived up to his promises. She said she asked Scotty to go to couples therapy, but he delayed, leading to their break up.
In an interview with TODAY.com, Scotty shared his regrets about his time on the show. “I brought so much of my hurt into this experience. I know hurt Aria, where she felt like she was trying so hard, and I was just dismissive of her effort. I wish I could take that back. I wish I could tell her and show her how much she means to me,” he said.
Caleb Storm and Mariah Zernik
Relationship status: Engaged
Mariah, the youngest Season 3 contestant, issued the ultimatum to Caleb, who wasn’t sure he was the best person for her. Through his trial marriage with Aria, Caleb gained more self confidence and Aria reassured him of his positive qualities.
When he reunited with Mariah, the two butted heads frequently and she worried that Caleb downplayed his connection with Aria. Despite the few spats, Caleb proposed to Mariah and she said yes.
At the reunion, Mariah showed off her engagement ring and said the two are still happily together. The episode included sweet photos and videos from the West Coast road trip Mariah and Caleb took so they could share their engagement news to their families in person.
But the mood shifted when Aria revealed that Caleb had “liked” some of her content on Instagram and didn’t fully convey what happened during the first trial marriage. Mariah cried and said it was difficult to watch the episodes and see the emotional connection Caleb built with Aria.
He apologized for withholding information and said he didn’t want to hurt Mariah.
Chanel Watkins and Micah Hardeman
Relationship status: Dating
Chanel and Micah’s time on Season 3 of “The Ultimatum” ended abruptly. They were one of two couples who quit during the first trial marriages. “Earlier in the day, Dave, Vanessa, Micah and Chanel secretly met off camera,” a title card in Episode 4 informed viewers. “That evening, surveillance cameras captured them packing.”
While co-host Nick Lachey said during the reunion that the four cast members were invited, he revealed that Micah and Chanel had declined. Micah addressed his absence on his Instagram story Dec. 18, the day the reunion was released. “When you walk away from something, there’s no need for a ‘reunion,’ — especially when honesty isn’t part of the equation,” he said.
Chanel gave a lengthier explanation on her social media pages. She said there were situations that made her “really uncomfortable.” She also shared that Micah and Vanessa were also going through similar experiences.
It seems Chanel and Micah are still together as they uploaded a joint post Dec. 16 that featured a video from their recent date night.
Vanessa Hattaway and Dave Adams
Relationship status: Dating
The second couple to exit the experiment early was Vanessa and Dave. They decided to attend the reunion together and unpack why they left. When Nick, who was Vanessa’s trial marriage husband, asked why she didn’t tell him goodbye or explain himself, she replied that she didn’t owe Nick an explanation after only knowing him for a few days. She also said that Nick’s behavior during their trial marriage was part of the reason she left.
She said that Nick’s spiraling started the first day they moved in together and that it was a “rollercoaster” dealing with his emotions as he worried about Sandy’s connection with J.R. Vanessa recalled trying to be supportive and shared that Nick was often cold toward her and didn’t seem to want her help.
Dave said that he wanted to leave because “it just felt like the experience was unnecessary at a certain point.” He continued, “I had discovered a lot about myself. I know this is my person. I’m good to go now.”
He added he knew before they chose their new partners that he was ready to go.
