It’s one of the most frustrating – you’re rushing to get to work or school early on a freezing cold day and as you turn your car on, the windscreen fogs, making it impossible to set out as you peer through a tiny gap hastily cleared with your hand.

Window fogging happens when warm, humid air inside your car meets the cold glass of your windows, causing condensation.

This is especially common during winter months when temperature differences are most extreme. While defogging your windows using a car’s built-in systems might work, it can take time—and doesn’t always prevent the fog from reappearing.

The experts at have revealed a cheap and  that will banish this problem for good and in fact, you probably already have the items you need inside your home. 

Shaving cream can double as an anti-fogging agent, due to ingredients in its formula that create a protective barrier on the glass, repelling moisture.

It’s a cheap and effective alternative to commercial anti-fogging sprays, and the results can last for weeks.

To utilise this hack, start by thoroughly cleaning your windshield with glass cleaner.

Then, take a small amount of non-gel shaving cream and rub it across the interior side of the glass using a clean microfiber cloth.

Let the cream sit for a few minutes then gently buff it off with a clean dry cloth.

This quick and easy hack will leave an invisible film across your windshield that will stop it fogging for weeks – and when it does wear off, simply repeat the process throughout the winter to make sure you can drive whenever you want. 

Additional ways you can make sure your windshield stays clear are by using silica gel packs.

Placing these in your vehicle will help absorb excess moisture and reduce fog, as will cracking open a window to regulate the temperature in the car.
