Ruben Amorim has shown his class in a newly surfaced viral video that sees him giving a young fan a personal tour of Manchester United’s training complex in his car. The Portuguese head coach has been widely praised for his likeable demeanour since landing at Old Trafford, and his generous gesture has boosted his reputation.

Amorim has endured a rough start to life as United boss on the pitch, becoming the first in over 90 years to lose five of his first 10 matches in charge.

The Red Devils’ diabolical 2-0 defeat at Wolves on Boxing Day was their third in a row in all competitions and left them rotting in 14th in the Premier League.

But there is an overwhelming acknowledgement that Amorim faced an almost impossible task to instantly enjoy positive results after entering the hot seat in November.

The 39-year-old has made it clear that he will prioritise instilling the same identity that turned Sporting into Portugal’s dominant force during his four-year reign.

And while United supporters can get behind those efforts, understanding the concept of short-term pain for long-term gain, Amorim is doing himself plenty of favours away from the pitch, too.

On Sunday, TikTok account @mufcmaxcarrington shared a video showing a young fan giving Amorim a card he had made to welcome him to Manchester.

The United boss stopped for the waiting party outside the Carrington gates, had a little chat, said his thanks, offered a high five and took a photo with the gift-giver.

But then the youthful supporter got more than what he bargained for after complimenting Amorim’s flashy black car – a private lap around Carrington.

It was a remarkable act of generosity that has gone a long way in strengthening Amorim’s early relationship with the fanbase.

But the Lisbon-born tactician will accept that he will ultimately be judged on success on the pitch rather than his actions off it.

And United are starting a sixth defeat in December in the face when Eddie Howe’s red-hot Newcastle United visit Old Trafford tonight.

The Magpies have found form, winning their last four games by scoring 14 goals and conceding just once.

A win is crucial for United, who start 2025 with a Premier League clash against runaway leaders Liverpool at Anfield before visiting Arsenal in the FA Cup third round.

Losing a ninth league game in their opening 19 could leave Amorim’s side 16 points behind the top-four spots and seven off the top half.
