Piers Morgan bids farewell to a ‘remarkable person’ in his life days after Christmas

recently shared a poignant photo of himself with former US President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100.

The announcement of Carter’s death brought a wave of sadness to Morgan, who took to social media to reflect on his experiences with the esteemed leader.

In his heartfelt tribute, Morgan recounted their first meeting in 2013 and its impact on him. He wrote: “RIP President Jimmy Carter, 100.

“A remarkable person who was the epitome of the phrase ‘public service.’ I had the honour of interviewing him 3 times, and he was one of the wisest, smartest, most compassionate, modest, and human world leaders I’ve ever met. A great man.”

In response to Morgan’s tribute, many of his supporters shared their own memories and sentiments about Carter, emphasising his lifelong commitment to humanitarian efforts and social justice.

However others were less impressed by the former president’s behaviour while in office.

One said: “You never lived in Iran, did you?”

A second replied: “Humane and good guy… horrible president.”

A third replied: “If only there wasn’t the stuff he did while president…”

While a fourth commented: “I mean, I don’t think most working-class people of the world would describe him with such words.”

The Carter Center said its founder, the oldest living former US president, died peacefully at his home in Plains, where he was born in Georgia, on Sunday afternoon.

A statement said his family surrounded him, adding, “He was 100, the longest-lived president in US history.”

Mr. Carter, a Nobel Peace Prize winner who served as president between 1977 and 1981, is survived by his children Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

His son Chip Carter said: “My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love.

“My brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. The world is our family because he brought people together, and we thank you for honouring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”
