and blankets can be a pain to dry indoors during winter if you’re like me, you may be trying to hold off using your central or tumble dryers to stop from skyrocketing.

However, when drying indoors, your home is prone to , and nasty damp smells.

Last year and it was an absolute game-changer for drying laundry and reducing the cost of my energy bills during winter.

Not only does it help to dry my clothes and bedding in such a small window of time, but it also prevents musty odours, condensation and mould.

A dehumidifier collects excess moisture in the air and tries to reduce it in its tank. If you use it often, the tank needs to be emptied regularly.

Swan’s Low Energy Dehumidifier dryingclothes

Last year I tested out Swan’s Low Energy Dehumidifier and it was an absolute game-changer (Image: Angela Patrone)

When drying my bed sheets and other laundry, I always start by putting them on a rinse and spin cycle in the washing machine to remove as much water as possible.

After, it’s time to load the items onto an airer – I tend to use two at a time, as spacing out the laundry will result in a faster drying time.

As I needed to dry a load of clothes simultaneously with my bed sheets, I added them to the airer first, putting the smaller items at the bottom.

With the clothes loaded, I added the bed sheets on top, ensuring the sides were open to allow air from the dehumidifier to flow freely.

The next step was to position the dehumidifier between both airers. For those using just one airer, make sure the appliance faces the side of one of the airers.

When switching on the dehumidifier, it’s important to check that the device is at the right humidity level – between 40 and 50 percent is best.

As soon as you turn on the dehumidifier, it measures the room’s humidity—mine was 78.

While this isn’t essential, after 30 minutes I like to turn the airers around to ensure the appliance is effectively drying all of the laundry.

After four hours, the clothes and bed sheets were completely dry and were smelling incredibly fresh as if they had been drying outdoors.

Although four hours sounds like a long time, it would take a whole day or two for the clothes to dry on an airer without a dehumidifier and it still costs you less than using a tumble dryer or your central heating.
