Erling Haaland accidentally swore in his post-match interview after Man City beat Leicester 2-0
turned the air blue in his post-match interview following ‘s win over – and appeared to miss it in a rare blunder as they failed to apologise during their Super Sunday broadcast.
Haaland scored the second goal in a 2-0 win at the King Power Stadium despite Ruud van Nistelrooy’s relegation-threatened Foxes producing a battling second-half performance. The hosts somehow failed to score despite fashioning multiple opportunities.
Speaking on the pitch post-match, Haaland told Sky Sports: “Good to win. Not much to say, it’s good to win. I don’t know what the difference was to be honest, I’m just happy to win.
“It’s important to look ahead. S**t happens. It’s something that can happen. You (the interviewer) swore before as well so it doesn’t matter. Things happen. We have to keep going and stay positive and focus on the right things.”
And despite cutting back to Kelly Cates in the Sky Sports studio after the interview, the broadcaster did not issue an apology through the presenter for Haaland’s choice of words – as is usually customary.
City’s win was just their second in their last 14 matches across all competitions with ‘s reigning champions having been hit hard by injuries and a lack of energy throughout the team.
On scoring his goal, Haaland added: “It’s always a relief when you score. It was an important goal to go 2-0 up. Leicester did a really good game.
“They’ve been playing really well under the new coach. We knew it was going to be difficult. Every game is difficult. It’s about getting the game in your favour. That’s what you need to do.
“It’s been a difficult time. Now it’s New Year’s so we shouldn’t think too much about football. It’s five, six or seven days until the next game so it’s the longest time in a pretty long period so we can rest a little bit and go again.”
Similarly, his manager Guardiola admitted that it is a feeling of pure relief for City to win again. They had only won once in nine league games before this and had lost six of those.
Erling Haaland had scored just once in seven league games before netting against Leicester
The Catalan coach reacted: “It was not the ideal performance but in the moment it’s almost impossible to do that. Hopefully the victory will improve our mood and it’s important to win here.
“We struggled, it was tight, for the first half an hour of the second half they were much, much better than us. We don’t have enough energy to sustain 90 minutes our game.
“Hopefully this result and the new year will help us bounce back a little bit, especially results, and the players come back a little bit.
“In the situation we’re in, the result is the most important thing, to clear our mind and to get points. We have another game at home now and many good things happened today.
‘It’s not enjoyable, it’s just relief right now, that’s the word to express the feeling that we have, all of us. But we have to improve.”
