The UK’s ‘worst seaside town’ where ‘there’s no sea’ and visitors say ‘it’s horrible’

Most Brits think of and , when trying to decide where to go for their summer beach holiday.

The guaranteed sunny weather and warm temperatures make the two countries a popular destination for those fed up of rain and grey, cloudy skies.

However, the UK has a magnificent collection of beaches that make a great place for a day out or even longer stay.

According to The Beach Guide, there are 1,500 beaches across the UK and .

The guide has complied a list of the best UK beaches, but one destination is conspicuous by its absence.

is the most northern part of Sefton’s beautiful 22-mile coastline and has one of the most unique natural environments in the country.

It is home to many thousands of wading birds from their northern breeding grounds and is also famous for hosting the Southport Air Show.

Unfortunately, many visitors to the beach have been less than impressed, judging by reviews left on .

One angry beach goer called Jessica fumed: “Horrible, walked miles without seeing any sea , shells everywhere , its just sand and there are no cubicles to get changed.”

Another, Suzie, concurred, writing: “Absolutely disgusting! One of my worst experiences ever.

“Walked miles on end for the sea just to realise that it was not clean and full of jellyfish.

“There was shells everywhere and my feet got cut with shells and sharp objects in the sand. Do not go to this beach for the sea because you will never find it!”

Which? Magazine also ranked the beach as one of the worst seaside towns in the country for two consecutive years.

However, it is not all bad news for Southport beach, which scored a credible 6.7 on the beaches-searcher.com site.

In fact, some visitors raved about the beach in their evaluations, giving it an unbeatable ten out of ten.

Rajdwip Tapadar was one such person who wrote in the comments section: “A good place to hangout but if you are expecting some sea then you might need to walk more. Take a beer and relax in the lap of nature.”
