One-ingredient cooking hack stops boiling pans bubbling over in seconds

There’s nothing more frustrating when you’re hungry and a delicious meal, and the water in your pot boils over, leaving a mess in your kitchen.

This happens because when water or another liquid you are cooking with, boils, forcing the air out and causing bubbles. These can quickly build up and foods like pasta can make the bubbles resist popping and causing a spillage.

Using a wooden spoon can help, as well as turning down your heat. Plus if you use a wider pot this allows the bubbles to spread out and pop, instead of spilling.

But, if you are looking for a quick trick to stop your meal from getting ruined, this is genius.

A viral clip shared on page Today Years Old on X (formerly Twitter) – where tricks are shared that people may have never realised before – shows a chef pouring olive oil onto a paper towel and rubbing it on the sides of his metal pan.

His method instantly worked. One guy decided to see if it really works. He used kitchen roll and added some olive oil onto it before spreading around the rim of his boiling pan.

He was left stunned when the hack worked. One questioned: “Why is this the first time I’ve seen this?”

Another observed: “You’ve got to be kidding me. School taught me nothing and I took HomeEc!” Then a third commented: “I’ve learned so many cleaning hacks via the internet.”

“This works,” said an individual who tried the trick. “Good to know,” commented one other.

Others didn’t seem quite as convinced, as one wrote: “Just lower the heat? Don’t waste oil…” “Or just turn it down a little,” noted another.

Another said: “Olive oil is expensive AF, use the wooden spoon.”

“Turn it down and keep an eye on it,” commented another. One other added: “I’m not wasting the purest and most expensive olive oil in the country to do that. I’ll just use a wooden spoon.”

One other said: “People will do anything except learn to actually cook and turn the temp down a little.”
