London is a lover’s dream, with a huge number of cafés and restaurants hiding on every street, waiting to be discovered.
Having been named the best European city for food in 2024 by , with a wide variety of food offered across the city, many flock there in hope of trying out all it has to offer. But according to one online food critic named Archie Montgomery, the best café you can eat at is actually located an hour outside the , in the Sussex town of Horsham.
Gwyn’s bakery is owned by former chef Ben Lines, who has worked in 1, 2 and 3 Michelin star kitchens before becoming the head baker at his own cafe.
:
“It’s a fantastic bakery that is completely nut free,” food reviewer Archie said in his video. “Instead they get a lot of those nutty flavours from things like linseeds and quinoa, which is really clever.”
For his review, Archie said he didn’t have a lot of things to choose from in the bakery as he’d gotten there late in the day, but settled for a quinoa and miso breadloaf, a coffee bun and a cinnamon bun.
“These buns are huge, and so soft and indulgent,” Archie said. “Ben’s Michelin background really shines through in his bang on balancing of flavours.
“This is definitely the best bakery I’ve been to within an hour of London.”

One person commented: “The cinnamon buns are the best ever. I wish they offered sliced bread though and they said it’s not possible but it is!”
Another viewer said: “I’ve driven past this place so many times and wanted to try it. This is my sign.” But not everyone was impressed with what the cafe had to offer, as one person claimed the pastries “look dead.”
Some other viewers didn’t understand why they should travel an hour away: “An hour out of London! Who has the time?” Despite his big claim of Gwyn’s bakery being the best bakery around London, Archie said he will still continue his quest of finding the best bakery in the area.
