BBC Breakfast viewers groan over ‘slow’ news day as show visits ‘boring’ pub

viewers took umbrage at its approach to a “slow” news day as the show visited a “boring” pub.

On Saturday, presenters and Roger Johnson cut to Oli Constable at 7am for an item on a community pub.

The reporter was at The Ickleford Lion, in Saffron Walden, to talk about how the venue was saved from closure by residents.

However, viewers weren’t impressed and took to social media platform X to air their views.

One viewer felt the item was more suited to a different show.

“I know it’s the Christmas holiday, and news is generally a bit slow, but a ‘saving a pub’ is more suited to #ThisMorning than #BBCBreakfast,” said the viewer.

Another noted that the premises, which is still undergoing some work, wasn’t very pub-like. “#BBCBreakfast don’t look like a pub, just turned up to get on the telly with a free coffee.”

A third asked: “Wonder how busy it will be in a month’s time?” Meanwhile, a fourth declared it was it “England’s most boring pub”.

The premises was saved after villagers bought shares to fund its purchase.

It was clear that most of the community had turned out for their watering hole’s moment in the spotlight on Breakfast.
