A woman has been found dead following a tragic fire on Boxing Day as launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service and Norfolk were called to reports of a house fire at Carterford Drive in the Old Catton area of Norwich at about 4am.
The victim, who hasn’t yet been named, was discovered at the property. said the woman’s family have been informed.
Norfolk Constabulary put up a cordon, which is expected to remain in place for some time.
The force said in a statement: “ were called to assist the fire service on Carterford Drive, Norwich at 4.22am today (Thursday, December 26, 2024) following reports of a fire at a residential property.
Fire crews from various areas responded to the blaze.
“Officers attended the scene and sadly the body of a woman was found within the property. Her next of kin have been informed.
“The fire was extinguished and there is currently a cordon in place which will remain for some time. The cause of the fire is currently unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.”
A spokesperson for Norfolk Fire and Rescue said the incident had been “difficult” for the teams sent to tackle the blaze.
“The thoughts of everyone at Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service are with the family and friends of the resident who tragically died in Norwich this morning,” they added.
An investigation has been launched into what caused the fire.
“We would like to thank all of our staff involved in this difficult incident and our emergency services colleagues.”
Fire crews from North Earlham, Wroxham, Aylsham, Hethersett, Acle and Long Stratton all responded to the blaze.
An aerial ladder platform from Great Yarmouth was used, with an urban search and rescue team from Dereham also attending the scene.
