Wayne Gretzky’s wife posts online after Trump urges hockey star to run for Canadian PM

While most in Trudeau camps have brushed aside Trump’s comments, Mark Carney recently said the ‘joke’ has gone ‘too far’

Janet didn’t write anything else in her post, leading some to wonder about its significance.

As reported by Fox News and multiple other media outlets, Janet’s now-expired Instagram story shared and linked to Trump’s Christmas Day Truth Social post about the pitch to her husband.

In it, Trump said Gretzky “had no interest” in becoming Canada’s head of state, “soon to be known as the Governor of Canada.”

“But I think the people of Canada should start a DRAFT WAYNE GRETZKY Movement. It would be so much fun to watch,” he ended.

Trump had just finished trolling Canada and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in an earlier post that again referred to him as “Governor” of a potential 51st state.

Joining the American Experiment, Trump said, would see Canadians enjoy a tax cut of 60 per cent and immediate business growth.

“And they would be militarily protected like no other Country anywhere in the World.”

“Some information about Canada for Americans,” he posted to X along with a link to a 14-year-old video made by NBC prior to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics in which Tom Brokaw educates uninformed U.S. citizens about their neighbours to the north.

While most in the Liberal and Trudeau camps have brushed aside or not responded to Trump’s comments, former Bank of Canada Governor and likely future Liberal candidate Mark Carney said the “joke” about Canada joining the union has gone “too far.”

“The casual disrespect, the poor tax math, and ignoring that workers on both sides of our border will be better off if we work together,” he wrote on X above a screenshot of Trump’s latest salvo.

“Time to call it out, stand up for Canada, and build a true North American partnership.”
