was arranging Christmas festivities solo for the first time in 14 years following her separation from – and the already emotional moment was intensified by a disaster involving her mum.
Ruth’s 93-year-old mum Joan was rushed to hospital after fracturing her pelvis in a painful fall – and the favourite rushed to her side. After a hearty Boxing Day brunch of bacon, sausages, fried eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes, and taking rescue dog Maggie on a much-needed walk, she returned to hospital to be with her mum.
She shared the details on , revealing that her mum, who badly bruised her face in the fall, would be snacking on a huge slice of Christmas cake to boost her morale, along with some festive shortbread. Thanking the snack company, Ruth captioned her Story: “Boxing Day hospital visiting. She loved the Christmas cake… thank you @nanalilyspuddings.”
Meanwhile, in another slide, she showed how Joan was keeping herself occupied while her injury healed, quipping: “Nothing keeps her from her crosswords.” After returning from the hospital, she indulged in board games and snacked on what was left in her kitchen.
“The best bit of Boxing Day… the leftover soup!” she confided. Ruth is currently going through a period of intense change, separating from host Eamonn after an almost 30-year relationship and fearing that son Jack will also be distancing himself from the family home soon too.

In a recent interview with Woman and Home magazine, she admitted that the upheaval was likely to leave her “dying inside”.
“Although Jack’s not yet been at his girlfriend’s for Christmas, I’m sure the time will come,” she confided.
“Then I’ll have to take a big gulp and go, ‘That’s lovely, darling. Of course, it’s absolutely no problem’ – but, of course, I’ll be dying inside.”
Ruth is currently living in the £3.5 million Surrey mansion she once shared with Eamonn, while he has moved on with new girlfriend Katie Alexander.

He’s previously discussed how he misses his native Northern Ireland and would like to return there in the future.
However, according to The Sun, this year he drove four hours to be with Katie, a marriage guidance counsellor, at her home in the West Yorkshire town of Mirfield.
Eamonn has posted “onwards and upwards” messages online, suggesting he is going through a period of re-adjustment like Ruth.
It had previously been discussed online that the ex-couple intend to share custody of their rescue dog, who was a huge part of the family and “like a daughter” to them both.
