Campaigners are calling for new rules around road repairs
Hundreds of motorists have signed a demanding “” be introduced across the UK.
The new poll has called for an end to “dangerous road surfaces” with for leaving “loose stones” on the tarmac.
Motorists warn this with some road users concerned surfaces aren’t properly completed before they are reopened.
The poll has so far received just over 400 signatures with 10,000 needed for the proposal to receive an official Government response.
However, a staggering 100,000 signatures are required before the 21 May 2025 deadline for the issue to be discussed in Parliament.
They claim that loose stones are dangerous on roads
The petition reads: “We think the Government should introduce new standards for the way that roads are resurfaced.
“Currently loose stones are sometimes being left for cars to gradually flatten out and this is dangerous for motorcyclists.
“Recently I have had some dangerous road surfaces to drive my motorcycle on due to loose stones not being rolled out properly. Motorcyclists can come off their bikes due to this.
“A new road surface should be left in a safe condition for all motor vehicles to use.”

New analysis from experts at has discovered that road users are than they were last year.
The latest 2024 Road Safety Report found that a staggering 78% of individuals were “more concerned” about than 12 months ago.
Analysis revealed this is an issue particularly felt by older drivers with a staggering 91% of road users above the age of 70 worried.
Ahead of Christmas, the Government confirmed a to fill potholes and repair roads across the UK.
The extra cash is an almost 50% increase in local road maintenance funding when compared to last year.
There is understood to be enough money to fix more than 7 million extra potholes in both 2025 and 2026.
The Government said the new funds would help meet their manifesto pledge to fix UK roads.
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said: “Potholes damage cars and make pedestrians and cyclists less safe. We are investing £1.6 billion to fix up to 7 million more potholes next year.
“This government is firmly on the side of drivers. Every area of England will get extra cash to tackle this problem once and for all. We have gone beyond our manifesto commitment to back motorists and help raise living standards in every part of the country.”
