Flights at Manchester Airport were hit by thick fog on Boxing Day, with long delays being reported for arrivals.
Other airports were also impacted due to the adverse weather conditions; Boxing Day football matches called also called off in the north west due to the lack of visibility.
Despite the weather issues yesterday, passengers with flights from Manchester are still being told to continue to arrive at the airport in line with the standard advice: arrive two hours in advance for short-haul flights and three hours ahead of long-haul flights.
Angry holidaymakers posted updates on social media, with one saying: “Just when you want to get home, we are sat on plane, delayed for an hour due to fog at Manchester Airport.”

Passengers may experience delays.
According to Manchester Airport’s disruption board, flights were affected all day. Most flights scheduled to arrive at the airport on Boxing Day afternoon were delayed, with some landing up to two hours late. This could have a knock-on effect into today.
Some flights due to arrive from 5.30pm onwards, including from Turkey and Greece, were delayed.
And most flights due to take off earlier in the day were also delayed by an hour or more.

In a statement, Manchester Airport said yesterday: “Like most airports across the country, we have experienced some delays as a result of fog.
“In most instances, these delays have been short and have not caused disruption to our schedule.
“Passengers due to travel should prepare as normal and aim to arrive at the airport in line with their airline’s advice – this is usually two hours ahead of a short haul flight and three hours ahead of a long haul flight.”
