A Coronation Street icon is set to make a dramatic return to the famous cobbles, leaving Carla Connor utterly gobsmacked.
Rob Donovan, played by Marc Baylis, burst onto the scene in 2012 as Carla’s (Alison King) rebellious younger brother, quickly becoming a source of turmoil and tension.
His stint on the street was rife with scandal, from torrid affairs to a ruthless attempt to topple his sister. His most heinous act came when he murdered Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) to conceal his illicit activities, which led to his life sentence behind bars.
Despite being locked away, Rob has popped back into Weatherfield several times, last seen in 2017. Now, it’s been officially announced that Marc Baylis is set to reprise his notorious role as Rob, with his comeback slated for broadcast next year.
‘s new executive producer Kate Brooks spilled the beans stating: “We last left Rob languishing in prison.”, reports Plymouth Live.

She teased fans with hints of his transformation, saying: “But he comes back to the show, and we think he might be a reformed character. We think he’s seen the error of his ways, whether that’s the case or not, I don’t know.”
Rob’s unexpected reappearance is sure to stir up trouble, especially for his sister Carla.
Viewers will remember that Carla has recently embarked on a relationship with local detective DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).

Kate divulged: “But Rob definitely comes back and causes a lot of trouble for Carla and Lisa. Just when Carla and Lisa think it’s safe for them to sit down and watch , Rob Donovan comes along and kind of scuppers all of that.”
With a promise of drama ahead, Kate added: “I love Rob and Carla and tapping into their past and their history together. And we really explore that in this story. But there’s so many twists and turns along the way. It’s going to be eventful for Carla and Lisa let’s put it that way.”
Expressing her enthusiasm, Kate concluded: “It’s really exciting. What I like about this story is that Carla and Lisa are finally together and finally united, and then this drops on them and they’re a bit like ‘How did that happen? ‘ So it’s a real test for their relationship at the early stages, but a good test.”
